With Diamonds struggling in their first season in the Conference, versatile central defender Matt arrived on loan from Wycombe Wanderers on a one month deal in February 1997. Matt had joined Wycombe from Overton United in 1987 and had spent some ten years with the Chairboys and was an influential figure in their Conference winning season in 1992 / 1993, when they also won the FA Trophy. His debut came in Diamonds the 1-0 defeat at Gateshead, before injury at Nene Park the following week saw a premature end to his loan period. After returning to Wycombe, he went on to join Kingstonian in the summer of 1997 and won two FA Trophy winners medals in 1999 and 2000. He joined Aldershot in the summer of 2000, and had loan spells with Basingstoke Town, Newbury Town and Oxford United before dropping down even further to play for Andover the following season, where he finished his playing career before moving into management. He was appointed assistant manager at Woking in November 2002 alongside Glen Cockerill, but was sacked in March 2007.
