Rene started his career with his home town club of Bedford Town, moving to Kettering Town in July 2006 and training as an electrician. He had a very successful time with the Poppies, scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances and attracting the interest of League One side Peterborough United. He signed a four year deal with the Posh on 2 May 2007, but found little opportunity to gain a regular place in the first team. In January 2008, he went out on loan to Rochdale until the end of the season, and in August 2008, went on a season long loan to Morecambe. The following season, he was still out of favour and went to Lincoln City for a three month loan in August 2010, finishing the season with Gillingham in January 2010, once again until the end of the season. After Lee Tomlin had left to join the Posh during July, manager Justin Edinburgh brought the twenty-three year old striker in for some of the pre-season friendlies, and after further discussions, he arrived on a half-season loan on 13 August 2010.

His loan was completed on 1 January 2011, when he came on as a second half substitute at Luton Town before returning to Peterborough United. On 28 January 2011, Rene went out on a one month loan to League One side Bristol Rovers. On 2 March, this loan was extended until the end of the season. On 13 July 2011, Rene signed a two-year deal with League Two side Torquay United. After some 30 goals in 89 appearances, Rene left at the end of his contract, and signed a two-year deal with League Two side Burton Albion on 12 July 2013. After a fall-out with manager Gary Rowett, Rene left by mutual consent on 9 January 2014 after 19 appearances and two goals, signing an eighteen month contract with his former boss Justin Edinburgh at League Two Newport County the same day.

He left Newport in March 2015, joining Kettering Town in November of that year. He left the Poppies ahead of the 2018-19 season., briefly joining Hendon FC before moving to Kings Langley in August 2018. After a spell at Walton Casuals he returned to Bedford Town at the start of the 2020/21 season. His Wikipedia entry is here.
