Born in Sheffield, Luke joined the Sheffield Academy whilst still at school and played in the Sheffield Wednesday youth side at the age of 16. After taking a scholarship with the club, he joined up with the first team for the clubs summer tour of the USA in 2006 and made his first team debut in August that year. Appearances have been limited, although the tall attacking central midfielder was offered a new one-year contract with the Owls in the summer of 2008. He joined Chesterfield on a one month loan in September 2008, before joining Diamonds for a similar period on 7 November 2008.

He returned to Sheffield Wednesday on 9 December 2008 and went on a one-month loan to Northampton Town in late-August 2009. He was released by the Owls on 26 January 2011 by mutual consent and on 23 February 2011, signed a two-year deal with US side Orlando City of the USL Professional League. He signed for Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017, but in 2018 switched to coaching as well as playing indoor soccer in the USA for the Orlando Sea Wolves.
