Scott was born in Glasgow and started his career north of the border. He played in goal for Albion Rovers making his debut in April 2001 and managed to score a last minute equaliser against Queens Park in February 2003. He played over 50 games, before signing for Championship side Coventry City in July 2003 for a nominal fee and became their first choice keeper. He represented Scotland in a B International while with Coventry. He lost his place to Luke Steele in September 2004, when the Manchester United keeper was brought in for a season long loan, and arrived at Nene Park on 18 February 2005 for a one month loan. After just ten days however, he was recalled to back to Coventry due to injuries but played just one more time for them. He returned to Diamonds on 11 March 2005 for the remainder of the season.

He was released by Coventry at the end of the season, and joined Bristol Rovers in July 2005. After being first choice keeper for a year, he lost his place and went on a three month loan deal with Shrewsbury Town in October 2006. The loan was extended to the end of the season, and he should have played in the League Two play off final, but the match was against his parent club, so he was barred from playing despite being released a few days later. He joined Wycombe Wanderers on 29 May 2007, but a knee injury kept him sidelined for most of the season. Having recovered for the start of the 2008/09 season, he suffered a recurrence of an ankle problem in February 2009. Scott was released in May 2010, and joined Conference side Wrexham on 26 July 2010. After nine appearances however, he found himself on the bench and elected to move to Crawley Town on 1 January 2011 on an eighteen month deal. On 25 May 2012, it was announced he would be joining League Two side Rotherham United on expiry of his contract with Crawley, to team up with his former manager Steve Evans. He underwent an operation in October 2012, which kept him out of the side until the following March, when he returned to the starting line-up. Following a further season with the Millers, and a total of 31 appearances, he was released on 28 May 2014,  joining League One side Crewe Alexandra on 3 July 2014. He moved to Mansfield Town for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, prior to joining Oxford United ahead of the 2017-18 season, when his appearances were limited to cup games, although he did make his league debut in August 2018. He is now a Goalkeeper Coach at Oxford United. His Wikipedia page is here.
