Peter was born in Bury, Greater Manchester and was spotted playing for local side Strand Athletic. before joining his home town club, Bury in 1995. After a period with Chorley, he joined Lancaster City in the summer of 1997 where after a successful period, Dutch side NAC Breda persuaded him to move abroad. In 2000, he returned to England and joined Luton Town. Peter joined Diamonds on loan from in November 2001, as they adjusted to life in the Football League.
He managed a goal on his league debut as a second half substitute in a game against Halifax, but he returned to Luton after a month. He was released by Luton in May 2002, and dropped back into the non league scene. Over the next few years, he played for Morecambe, Southport, Lancaster City, Stafford Rangers, Altrincham and Barrow. After being released by Barrow in September 2007, he joined FC United of Manchester, scoring on his debut, but is no longer playing.
