Formerly with Chelmsford City, David had joined Peterborough United in May 1994 for £30,000. He arrived at Nene Park on a one month loan on 3 October 1996, extended for a further month. The winger played a total of eight games, four of which were as a substitute before returning to the Posh.

He moved on to Leyton Orient in March 1997, with loan moves to St.Albans City and Dover Athletic before spending several years in Ireland with Bohemians. He returned to the mainland in 2004, and has since played for Kidderminster Harriers, Tamworth, joining Moor Green in July 2005. With the merger of Moor Green and Solihull Borough two years later, he joined the newly formed Solihull Moors of the Conference North. He spent several seasons with the club before retiring, becoming fitness coach at Swindon Town. Following a change of management at Swindon, David was appointed fitness coach at Sheffield United on 28 June 2011. He then moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers to become their Head of Academy Sport Science.
